Our snowshoeing itinerary around Monte Rosa is built on two complementary bases, each opening onto a different side of the mountain.

The first is Macugnaga. From here we reach terrain that is ideally suited to snowshoeing, and on the right days we push further west into the Devero area — a wilder, untouched corner of the Alps where the trails feel remote and the landscape barely marked by human presence. This is the exploratory half of the journey.

The second base is Alagna, on the opposite side of the massif. Here the excursions are chosen specifically for their outlook: routes that put Monte Rosa itself, and its glaciers, directly in front of you rather than as a distant backdrop. Where the Macugnaga days are about immersion in wild terrain, the Alagna days are about contemplation.

Together, the two halves give a rounded experience of the massif: the untamed valleys on one side, the great panoramas on the other.

Our guide, Luca Franco, has put together five excursions reachable directly by our minibus, drawing on what he has learned about the group over previous years to shape routes that suit the pace and preferences he already knows well.

Tour overview

  • Tour start: 7 February 2027 — arrival in Turin around midday, pickup by minibus with Luca, our guide, transfer and check-in in Macugnaga at Dream Hotel Alp.
  • 5 days of snowshoeing, from 8 to 12 February — on the evening of 11 February, transfer to Alagna, Hotel Montagna di Luce.
  • Tour end: 13 February 2027 — drop-off in Turin around midday (to be confirmed against travellers' departure times).

Accommodation: Macugnaga

Dream Hotel sits with Monte Rosa in full view, and after a day on snowshoes its wellness area is the natural place to unwind: an 8-person Jacuzzi with chromotherapy, a Turkish steam bath under a starry sky, a Finnish sauna and an emotional shower, all on the top floor looking out over the mountain. It's open every evening from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, giving the group time to recover together before going out to enjoy the different dining possibilites in Macugnaga.

We will spend here the first 4 nights of the tour.

Accommodation: Alagna

Montagna di Luce is a different kind of stay: a small hotel built into an old 18th-century mountain house in Pedemonte, the oldest of Alagna's Walser hamlets. With just a handful of wood-panelled rooms and a restaurant serving traditional Valsesian dishes, it offers the chance to sleep in a genuine mountain borgata.

We will spend here the last 2 nights of the tour.
