8 Days by motorcycle between Brittany and Normandy, Special Tour from Piedmont to France (and back)

An unforgettable journey between the cliffs of Brittany and the immense beaches of Normandy, passing by coastal villages, fascinating salt pans, the Loire with its castles, the Burgundy of great wines and the Alps

€ 1599

This journey originated from the desire of Elena, and of some of our devoted motorcyclist travelers, to take a trip further than usual, to discover fascinating territories such as the Breton coast and Normandy, passing through the castles of the Loire.

Developed with the help of our Jean Philippe (the Black Tulip) who was born and raised in the area of the Loire castles, this journey has been enriched with little-known little corners, a journey along the river and many small details that only those who know the places well can give to the organization.

The result is 8 days of splendid ride on two wheels, starting on August 15, with few but obligatory stretches of highway to arrive (and return) and days of narrow streets, cliffs, salt marshes, long and silent beaches, natural parks, castles, rivers, hills and vineyards.

All this with the guidance and assistance of our Elena, precise, organized and smiling, who will take care of everything and leave you focused on the pleasure of driving and discovery, a formula that our travelers know well.

It is the right occasion to start, or return, to travel with us, but be careful: we only have room for 8 bikes, so the advice is to book early before the available places run out!

Brittany motorcycle map

Day 1 - Saturday 15 August - from Turin to Clermont-Ferrand - 500 km

We will leave in the morning, at 8.30 am, from Avigliana, just outside Turin. From here we will be well on our way to head towards the Frejus Tunnel, our gateway to France.  The first leg of this exceptional 8-day trip is certainly one of the least spectacular, because it forces us to use the motorway for a good part of the way in order to shorten the time a little. Once in Saint Pierre en Jarez, however, we will enjoy a pleasant and interesting ride for the last 150 km of the day on the state roads that cross the Livradois-Forez Regional National Park passing by villages whose names are known to lovers of fine cheeses such as Saint Marcellin en Foret, Ambert, Sugéres, Vic le Comte and thus begin to 'savor' some of the French territory.

Day 2 - Sunday 16 August - from Clermont-Ferrand to Saumur - 370 km

No motorways today! We will cross villages like Evaux les bain, Boussac, Cluis, and we will arrive to the spectacular area where the course of the Loire is dotted with exceptional castles, such as those of Loches and Saumur for example. We will also pass by the Regional Park of la Brenne, without missing the panoramic stops and the most pleasant and enjoyable roads.

Day 3 - Monday 17 August - from Saumur to Quiberon - 460 km

Following the course of the Loire, and its fairytale castles, is in itself a fantastic experience, and it will be only the beginning of this splendid day of travel for us. After Nantes the river opens into a large estuary at the border with Brittany, the landscape changes and the air begins to smell of the sea. We will pass by villages like St. Nazaire, Guerande with the suggestive salt pans, La Turballe, Piriac, Carnac (here we will stop to see the Megaliths) and finally Quiberon where we will spend the night.

Day 4 - Tuesday 18 August - from Quiberon to Pont Saint Mathieu - 310 km

It will be a day of great landscape, historical and cultural discoveries. From the Quiberon area we will head towards Concarneau where we will have a promenade on the "Ville Close".  We will continue to Crozon for a lunch on the seafront and then arrive in the afternoon in two important places in the history of Brittany: Camaret with a visit to the war memorial and Conquet with its spectacular view of the Ocean.

Day 5 - Wednesday 19 August - from Pont Saint Mathieu to Saint Malo - 360 km

The day will be long and full of visits and breathtaking landscapes. The first destination of the day will be Roscoff where we will take a walk in the center and we will admire the Notre Dame de Croaz church. We will leave to reach the area of Tregastel / Perros Guirec to discover the pink granite coast and then continue towards Cap Fréhel. We will come to stay overnight in the Dinard / Saint Malo area, where it is impossible not to feel like a sailor, watching the sun set, very late in the evening, from the ancient walls.

Day 6 - Thursday 20 August - from Saint Malo to Cabourg - 270 km

An important stage from a historical point of view because we will cross some of the important places of the Normandy landings. The first stop in the morning will be the very famous and fascinating Mont Saint Michel.
We will continue towards Coutance and then arrive at Omaha Beach in Vierville Sur Mer, the most famous of the 5 beaches involved in the Normandy landing. From here we will travel along the coastal roads, passing from "Batteries de Longues Sur Mer", Port Mulberry to Arromanches, Juno Beach to Courseulles Sur Mer until arriving in Cabourg for overnight stay.

Day 7 - Friday 21 August - from Cabourg to Beaune - 530 km

Today we will begin the return home, but the journey will not have finished giving us nice surprises. We will take the highway passing near Paris and then arrive in Beaune, in the Burgundy of great wines, and after parking our two wheels we will enjoy some tastings and a visit to this beautiful city where we will spend the night.

Day 8 - Saturday 22 August - from Beaune to Turin - 500 km

Last stage of the journey: today we will continue on the motorway towards Lyon and then Turin. If time permits we will avoid the Frejus tunnel to pass from Colle del Moncenisio and end the journey with some nice curves before returning to Turin where we will say goodbye

Motorbikes are her thing. When she's not riding, she is dancing, country style.

Precise, strong, smiling and energetic, she's stubborn and never gives up. Expert in packing up for any trip, she's the one who offers you a spare toothbrush when you forgot yours!

Never without: dancing boots

Favourite quote: "Dance first. Think later"

This trip is not demanding from the motorcycle point of view: there are no dangerous or difficult roads. The only difficulty is the resistance to so many hours of driving because the kilometers to do each day will be quite many, and so there will be a couple of hours of driving between stops, especially on the days of approach and return.

Given the long mileage, the long distances between the various zones and the few days available, in some moments it will be necessary to travel along sections of motorway or highway

Our motorbike tours are designed to be easy, relaxing and enjoyable. For this reason, we keep the number of participants so small (maximum 8), in order to adapt the rhythm and routes to the capabilities of the group. No one gets left behind, and that's why our motorcycle tours are suitable for beginners.

Driving will, however, be a significant part of the trip, so we recommend to self-assess your driving skills and endurance honestly before deciding to take a motorcycle trip.

This tour, however, does not require any exceptional driving skill:

  • There will be for sure some tight roads with hairpin turns, so you should be able to steer the bike in these situations.
  • We will not drive too fast, we will enjoy the road, the curves and the landscape.
  • there will be fun and enjoyable roads during all the tour.

If you want Elena to help you evaluate better the required level of expertise, you can contact her via e-mail at [email protected] , she will be happy to help!

Motorcycle Tour Guide Giroola capacity

You can ride with us on any kind of bike (you can also join with a big scooter, we don't discriminate against anyone!)

To be able to maintain an adequate pace that allows us to keep up with the various stages of the program, we recommend using a motorcycle that has at least

  • 300cc / 35cv / 25kW for tours with average daily travel up to 200-250km
  • 500cc / 40cv / 30kW for tours with an average daily distance of 250-300km or higher

This was, if the situation requires it, or when the tour requires it, we could also take advantage of some sections of motorway (which we usually try to avoid as much as possible). These are guidelines, we know that a good biker with a 250 can go faster than Elena with her Tiger 800, so if you have any doubts, do not hesitate to ask us.

This tour will be entirely on paved roads, so you can join with your motorcycle, or with the one you like, it should only have good tires and be well maintained.

If you would like to rent a bike for the trip, we are at your disposal: mark it in your reservation or contact Elena by emal at [email protected] and we will help you find the best ride possible!

The single room supplement of this trip is higher than usual because in France generally the same amount is paid for a single or double room, the only difference there being the cost of breakfast.

Booking Policy, from the General Terms and Condition for the Sale of Tour Packages:

Acceptance of reservations by Giroola Srl is subject to availability. Reservations will be considered final following confirmation by Giroola Srl,  even via e-mail or fax, to the client.

Indications relative to the tour package not contained in the contract documents, brochures or other forms of written communication, will be supplied in time by Giroola Srl prior to the initial starting date in compliance with its duties as envisaged by Legislative . decree n. 79/2011.

Upon booking, a registration fee and a deposit of 25% of the total amount is required. Full payment is due 30 days prior to departure. For reservations made within 30 days of departure, full payment is due upon booking. Lack of payment of the abovementioned sums on the dates established constitutes grounds for cancellation of reservations such as to determine, on the part of Giroola Srl, the right to terminate the contract.

The client renouncing the contract may be substituted by another person provided that:

a) Giroola Srl be given written notice at least 4 weekdays prior to the date of departure, together with the necessary personal data of the transferee;

b) The transferee be able to satisfy all the conditions for the fruition of the service ( ex article 10 of Legislative decree n.111/95) and in particular the requisites relative to passports, visas, health certificates;

As far as certain types of services are concerned, third party suppliers have the right to refuse the substitution of the transferee, even if effected within the time limit specified as per item (a) of the present article. This non-acceptance shall be notified in good time by Giroola Srl to the parties involved before departure.

In the event of withdrawing from the tour package contract, the client is, in any case, liable for the payment of the tour package price. If withdrawal takes place for reasons beyond those envisaged in article 7 of the present General Terms, the client shall pay, in compliance with ex article 1373, paragraph III, Italian Civil Code, cancellation penalties as specified below:

  • 10% of the tour package price within 30 days prior to departure
  • 30% of the tour package price from 29 to 18 days prior to departure
  • 50% of the tour package price from 17 to 10 days prior to departure
  • 75% of the tour package price from 9 to 3 weekdays prior to departure
  • 100% of the tour package price beyond these terms.

The client may withdraw from the contract, without incurring any penalty, in the following circumstances:

  • a significant change of one or more elements of the contract which can be objectively considered as fundamental for the fruition of the tour package in its entirety and proposed by Giroola Srl.
  • after the conclusion of the contract itself but prior to departure and not accepted by the client.

In the abovementioned circumstances, the client is entitled to the following options:

  • the fruition of an alternative tour package, with no increase in price or with the restitution of the excess in price, if the second tour package costs less than the first;
  • the restitution of any sum corresponded as partial payment. Said restitution must be made within seven weekdays from receiving the request for reimbursement.

The client must communicate the decision (to accept the change or to withdraw) within two weekdays from receiving notice of the price increase or change. In the absence of specific notice within the said term, the proposal made by Giroola Srl will be considered accepted. The client who decides to withdraw from the contract before departure for circumstances beyond those listed above shall pay, after deducting the account paid as per article 4, the penalty indicated in article 6.

Variations to the tour, requested by the client, after the confirmation of booking, could involve processing expenses for Giroola Srl and at times penalties charged by suppliers. If so, the customer will be charged. Partial withdrawal of some of the travellers under the same contract and the resulting decrease in number of tour members is to be considered partial cancellation and is consequently regulated as stated in article 6.

As specified in our General Conditions of Sale of tourist packages, when you travel with Giroola you are covered by our Civil Liability Insurance. For all that could happen and that was due to our negligence or error, we have signed a policy (Reale Mutua Assicurazioni, nr.2007 / 03/2276452).

There are other insurance policies that we recommend and for which we have chosen to work with Allianz Global Assistance, whose Globy range seems to us to be the most suitable for our travelers:

  • TRAVEL CANCELLATION - Our 8-person trips are often full months before the date of travel, and even if our cancellation policy is actually much more flexible than expressed in our Booking Policy (our travelers can attest to this, we are very available to move the trip in case of unexpected even the last minute), where other facilities are involved (hotels, rentals, etc) some expenses are not really refundable, and therefore a good trip cancellation insurance becomes a valuable ally.

We at Giroola are an agency of the Globy network of Allianz Global Assistance, and we can therefore provide you with all the information, make estimates and issue the policies directly with the booking.
