€ 299

We offer a beautiful journey of real mountain paths of spectacular beauty in the Maritime Alps park.

We will depart on Friday afternoon, with our backpacks for a first small hike of 2 hours to get to the Valasco refuge, former hunting lodge of the kings of Italy, which is also interesting from an architectural point of view. Here we will be able to taste the Occitan cuisine, typical of this area of Piemonte.

The next morning we will be back on the paths for a great hike that will visit the Lakes of Valscura, in a path that winds on perfectly preserved military roads and which will allow us to visit fascinating fortifications. On Saturday night we will set down our backpacks at the Refuge Questa at 2388 meters above sea level, which towers above the Valasco plain. We will get back to the Valasco Rifugio for the night.

On Sunday we will get to the highest point of this hike, the “Colletto di Valasco”, at 2423 meters above sea level and we will get to admire the Fremamorta Lakes. At the end of this wonderful day we will get back to Terme di Valdieri where our adventure will end.

This will be an unmissable weekend, perfect for hikers that have a good fitness level but without special difficulties on the way (Excursion level). We are waiting for you!

40 years of passion for the mountains have led him to make it a way of life.

The gaze that stretches from a peak towards the infinite, the color of the flowers, the gurgling bubbling of a stream give indescribable emotions.

He has always been a ski-mountaineering, mountaineering and hiking enthusiast both in summer and in winter. A nature photography lover, the conviviality of a good table and good company are the most beautiful way to end any excursion.

The mountain ... a look towards the sky.

This tour consists of 3 days of intermediate level itineraries (itineraries on paths of various kinds, sometimes with marked slopes, lasting 5-6 hours of walking and with a positive vertical drop of maximum 900-1000 meters).

In detail:

- On Friday, with our backpacks we will get to the Valasco refuge. This will take approximately 2 hours of trekking, with a positive altitude gain of 395 meters.

The first part of the journey follows the road that from S.Anna di Valdieri links the Valasco plain, former hunting grounds of the Savoia royal family, where king Vittorio Emanuele the second had a luxurious hunting lodge built, with turrets and stables.

Now this magnificent building is used as an alpine refuge, open in the summer time months. This is where we will spend our nights.

- on Saturday, leaving our luggage behind, we will go for a 5-6 hours hike, that will end at the Questa Refuge, 626 meters of positive altitude gain.

At the end of the plateau, a beautiful military road built by the alpine troops starts climbing and gets all the way to the Valscura.

Military roads are unmistakable, perfectly paved and well functioning even after a hundred years from their construction.

We will take the military road and having left behind the fork that leads to the Questa refuge, we will keep right and we will get all the way to the lower Valscura lake. (2265 mt on sea level)

We will stay for the night then at Refuge Questa.

- on Sunday we will walk with our backpacks for 5-6 hours, then return to the Terme di Valdieri. Positive gain: 300 meters, Negative altitude: 1055 meters

The program for the third day includes the climb to the Fremamorta Lakes and the descent to the Della Casa plateau and then to Terme di Valdieri.

The environment of ascent is spectacular, the Colletto of Valasco represents the culmination of our climb, and with a flat route, on the military road, we will walk along the four lakes, with a slight deviation we can get to the Guiglia bivouac enjoying a breathtaking scenery of the Argentera massif.

The descent through decidedly easy trails, leads us to the bottom of the Valley, near the refuge Elena and then to the Della Casa plateau.

From here a paved road will take us to Terme di Valdieri.

So, it does not pose particular difficulties, but to enjoy the holiday and be at ease it is good to self-evaluate objectively your own condition and abilities.

Classification of difficulty levels for trekking and hiking itineraries:

  • Easy (Tourist): relatively short itineraries, on wide paths and flat dirt roads or with slight slopes; lasting 3-4 hours of walking and with a positive vertical gain of maximum 450-550 meters.
  • Intermediate (excursion): itineraries on paths of various kinds, sometimes with marked slopes; lasting 5-6 hours of walking and with a positive difference in height of maximum 900-1000 meters.
  • Challenging (Expert Hiking): itineraries that present some technical difficulties, such as rocky ground, slight snowy slopes, exposed sections and in some cases single rocky sections of easy climbing (I and II degree) that require the use of hands; a good rhythm is required and physical preparation must be adequate for a day of continuous walking in the mountains; lasting 8-9 hours of walking and with a positive difference in altitude from 1000 meters upwards.

The price of this beautiful weekend in contact with nature, 299 euros per person, includes:

- 2 nights stay with breakfast in a alpine refuge (Refuge Valasco and Refuge Questa)

- 2 lunches

- 2 dinners

- accompaniment of an Environmental excursion Guide for the whole length of the journey, from Friday to Sunday

and all the magic and surprises that this weekend will give you

  • CLOTHING We recommend to dress in layers, using breathable garments, but without forgetting a fleece and a windproof and rainproof jacket. Regarding the trousers it is better to opt for a pair that would be not too heavy, able to dry quickly and especially with elastic parts to facilitate movement and be comfortable. About socks and underwear is advisable to opt for garments in polypropylene, that are breathable and able to dry quickly. We recommend to bring rain gear.
  • FOOTWEAR: Boots or low shoes are both fine, provided they are fit for hiking. We recommend to bring shoes that have been broken-in already, to ensure good comfort when worn all day.
  • BACKPACK: You will need to carry your luggage from the parking area to the refuge. We recommend a 40 to 60 liters capacity backpack, that you should test and fill before departure, trying to keep the weight down (we recommend a maximum weight of 11-12 kg max). You should therefore bring only the essentials, using lightweight and functional clothing and equipment, without forgetting a good rain cover in case of rain.
  • HIKING STICKS: ideal both uphill and downhill to reduce the effort of leg muscles and to reduce the load on the joints.
  • DO NOT FORGET: A pair of sunglasses, sunscreen, a water bottle of at least half a liter as well as a cap and a band to protect the forehead and ears from the wind are essential. Also please remember to bring the necessary gear for an overnight stay at the refuges (sleeping bag, etc).

Trekking Valle Gesso - 31/8, 1 and 2/9

Extraordinary experience !!! I discovered Giroola through FB and I was immediately struck by the excursion proposals, by the very captivating and convincing way of communication, as it is rich in information and precise programs. I fully agree with the philosophy! The idea of a "micro tour operator", micro only because it is well focused on a specific territory that deserves a slow valorization, which employs qualified personnel (naturalists, cyclists, etc.) is absolutely winning! Not to mention the availability of Paola and Alessandro, always ready to provide information and support. The trekking has absolutely satisfied and exceeded the expectations, magnificent places, visited with the direction of Marco Chierici of Alpitrekking, an excursion guide of great experience that made me feel in good hands for the unquestionable knowledge of the territory. In short, I can say I felt followed and pampered from the first click on FB to see what it was, the last click on my personal mail to see the photo album of the trek, assembled by Alexander. Magic moments, I felt in Heaven! Many thanks to Giroola! (automatic translation by Google)
